The Saona Special is offered to passengers of Carnival, AIDA and Mein Schiff. The time table below refers to the ship time of Carnival. For AIDA and Mein Schiff passengers the time table will shift one hour.... The taxi transfers from the Cruise port start at 09:15am (Carnival ship time).
Itinerary:
You'll arrive in Bayahibe around 09:45am. We'll leave with the boat around 10:00am. Our first stop will be at the rock of Penon. This is a cave system along the
shore and the Taino indians used them as shelter during their fishing trips. We give you information about the Taino and the inauguration of the National Park.
After this short stop we continue to the mangroves. The mangroves are an important eco system in the ocean. From December till May it is breeding season for the
frigate bird and the males display their red pouch. Then it is off to Catuno Beach on Saona Island, we'll arrive here around 11.30am (Carnival ship time; local time 12.30am).
Catuano beach offers something for everybody. You can shop in the artisan shops, get a massage under the palm trees, just relax on the beach chairs and it offers an
excellent snorkel opportunity. You can snorkel from the beach at depts that vary from 3 ft to 20ft (1 - 6 meter).
Snorkel equipment is on the boat and our guide will offer instructions if you want. For non-confident swimmers: you can use the life jackets of the boats as additional
floating support, let us show you how.... Around 01:00pm we will have a comprehensive lunch on the beach, with tuna salad, pork chops, chicken drum sticks and a variation
of fruits, salads, rice and pastas. At 02:00pm we'll board the boat again to visit the piscina natural.
The piscina natural is something special: it is part of a large sandbank and we will leave the boat in the middle of the sea to dip in the knee-deep water. We'll have a
toast with some Vitamine "R" and we will look for the starfish. This gives you great photo opportunities. After +- 30 minutes we'll board again and we head back for Bayahibe.
We'll arrive in Bayahibe around 03:15pm and the taxis will be waiting to transfer you back to the cruise port.
With this excursion all drinks are included: rum punches, cooldrinks, water. Beer is only included at the lunch, if you want additional beers you can buy them on Catuano beach. No beer (glass bottles) are allowed on the boats.
